Titania McGrath: great satire in an era that so desperately needs it

If you want a good laugh and haven’t read this book, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Titania McGrath is the fictional “radical intersectional poet” who caused a stir on Twitter a couple of years ago. Eventually, comedian Andrew Doyle outed himself as Titania (and his career has done well from it).

Titania in action on twitter.

The book is an absolute gem, with several big laughs on every page. Titania / Doyle starts each chapter with a quote from a real wokey / feminist and they are absolutely crazy.

My favourite comes from feminist Sheila Jeffreys:

“When a woman reaches orgasm with a man she is only collaborating with the patriarchal system, eroticizing her own oppression.”

It’s unclear how many orgasms our Sheila has had with a man but I’ve seen a pic of her and have made a wild guess.

Anyway, I digress.

I was looking at the cover of Woke: A Guide To Social Justice the other day. Faded in the background (see pic) are a selection of the wokelburies’ ridiculous phrases that they have invented so they can say: “Ah that’s toxic masculinity” or “ooh, that mansplaining”.

Is it indeed? Do I look like I care?

I’ll try my best to be a good person without you humorless lot offering to be my coach, thanks.

Have a look. When you see all these idiotic phrases (or a small selection!) in one place it reminds you how ridiculous and unsatisfiable (word?) the “woke” are.

As if you needed reminding.

    1. It’s terrific and better still, fairly short. Her poetry in it is great too.

  2. You’re right — sounds like a needed satire for today. We can all use a few good laughs.

    1. It’s true, what happened to satire?! I think real life made it redundant.

  3. There’s always room for a good laugh–and people who are arrogantly thinking their way is the only way we all should believe and act is always worthy of giggles.
